Limb Length Difference
A limb length discrepancy (LLD) is when one arm or leg is longer than the other arm or leg. A difference in leg lengths is more likely to be noticed and to affect activities of daily living.
Flatfeet (Children)
Pediatric flat feet is a condition in which the entire sole of the child’s foot contacts the ground. Also known as pes planus and fallen arches, flat feet occurs when the foot’s arch either fails to develop or collapses.
Heel Pain
Heel pain, especially stabbing heel pain, is most often caused by plantar fasciitis, a condition that is sometimes also called heel spur syndrome when a spur is present. Heel pain may also be due to other causes, such as a stress fracture, tendonitis, arthritis, nerve irritation or, rarely, a cyst.

Because there are several potential causes, it is important to have heel pain properly diagnosed.

Stress Fractures
A stress fracture is a small crack in a bone, or severe bruising within a bone. Most stress fractures are caused by overuse and repetitive activity, and are common in runners and athletes who participate in running sports, such as soccer and basketball.
In/Out Toeing
The externally rotated appearance of a child’s feet when he walks, possibly due to a persistent fetal position, but may also be due to abnormal growth or an underlying neurologic problem.
Broken Toes
A broken toe is a common injury that’s most frequently caused by dropping something on your foot or stubbing your toe.
Bunions
A bunion is a bony bump that forms on the joint at the base of your big toe. It occurs when some of the bones in the front part of your foot move out of place.
Neuroma
A neuroma is a benign tumor of a nerve. Morton’s neuroma is not actually a tumor, but a thickening of the tissue that surrounds the digital nerve leading to the toes.
Diabetic Foot Care
If you have diabetes, nerve damage, circulation problems, and infections can lead to serious foot problems. However, you can take precautions to maintain healthy feet.

Managing your diabetes and maintaining a healthy lifestyle helps keep your feet healthy.

Hammertoes
A hammertoe is curled due to a bend in the middle joint of the toe. Hammertoe and mallet toe are foot deformities that occur due to an imbalance in the muscles, tendons or ligaments that normally hold the toe straight.
Flatfeet (Adults)
In people with adult acquired flatfoot, the arch of the foot falls or collapses. It can be a painful, sometimes debilitating condition.
Non-Healing Wounds
A non-healing wound is a wound that doesn’t heal within five to eight weeks, even though you’ve been following your provider’s instructions to take care of it. This can be very serious, because it can become infected and lead to an illness or even the loss of a limb. A non-healing wound sometimes is called a chronic wound. There are many different types of non-healing wounds, but the most common is an ulcer.
High Arched Foot
High Arched Foot or Cavus foot is a condition in which the foot has a very high arch. The high-arched foot places an excessive amount of weight on the ball and heel of the foot when walking or standing. High Arched Foot can lead to a variety of signs and symptoms, such as pain and instability. It can develop at any age and can occur in one or both feet.
Plantar Fasciitis
Plantar fasciitis is one of the most common causes of heel pain. It involves inflammation of a thick band of tissue that runs across the bottom of your foot and connects your heel bone to your toes (plantar fascia).
Metatarsalgia
Metatarsalgia is a condition in which the ball of your foot becomes painful and inflamed. You might develop it if you participate in activities that involve running and jumping. There are other causes as well, including foot deformities and shoes that are too tight or too loose.
Gout
Gout is a common and complex form of arthritis that can affect anyone. It’s characterized by sudden, severe attacks of pain, swelling, redness and tenderness in one or more joints, most often in the big toe.
Ingrown Toenails
Ingrown toenails are a common condition in which the corner or side of a toenail grows into the soft flesh. The result is pain, redness, swelling and, sometimes, an infection. Ingrown toenails usually affect your big toe.
Arch Pain
Pain across the bottom of the foot at any point between the heel and the ball of the foot is often referred to as arch pain. Although this description is nonspecific, most arch pain is due to strain or inflammation of the plantar fascia.
Sports Injuries
Sports injuries are injuries that occur when engaging in sports or exercise. Sports injuries can occur due to overtraining, lack of conditioning, and improper form or technique. Failing to warm up increases the risk of sports injuries. Bruises, strains, sprains, tears, and broken bones can result from sports injuries.
PTTD
Posterior tibial tendon dysfunction (PTTD) represents an acquired, progressive disease of the foot and ankle that is seen commonly in middle-aged patients. It is the most common cause of adult acquired flatfoot deformity. Treatments involve conservative and surgical options depending on the severity of the disease.
Gait Abnormalities
Abnormal gait or gait abnormality occurs when the body systems that control the way a person walks do not function in the usual way.
Neuromuscular Disease
Neuromuscular diseases affect the function of muscles due to problems with the nerves and muscles in your body. The most common sign of these diseases is muscle weakness.
Vascular Compromise
Collectively referred to as vascular compromise, these complications include partial or complete interruption of vascular supply by extravascular compression, or a complete occlusion of vascular supply from intravascular injection. Subsequent necrosis and scarring are potentially permanent sequelae.
Knock Knees/Bow Legs
Bowlegs are when the knees are curved out and space between the ankles is decreased. Knock-knee is when the knees are close together and space between the ankles is increased. A pediatric orthopedic surgeon can diagnose bowlegs and knock-knees through a physical exam and, sometimes, X-rays.
Nail Fungus
Nail fungus is a common condition that begins as a white or yellow spot under the tip of your fingernail or toenail. As the fungal infection goes deeper, nail fungus may cause your nail to discolor, thicken and crumble at the edge. It can affect several nails.
Bunionette
A prominence of the fifth metatarsal bone at the base of the little toe. The metatarsals are the five long bones of the foot.
Arthritis-Foot
Arthritis is inflammation of one or more of your joints. It can cause pain and stiffness in any joint in the body and is common in the small joints of the foot and ankle.
fractures
A broken foot is an injury to the bone. You may experience a broken foot during a car crash or from a simple misstep or fall.

The seriousness of a broken foot varies. Fractures can range from tiny cracks in your bones to breaks that pierce your skin.

Hallux Rigidus
Hallux rigidus causes pain and stiffness in the metatarsophalangeal (MTP) joint. That’s the joint where your big toe (the hallux) meets your foot. Hallux rigidus is a progressive condition, which means it can get worse over time. Some people find that it never gets much worse than when it started.
Warts
Warts are a type of skin infection caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV). The infection causes rough, skin-colored bumps to form on the skin. The virus is contagious. You can get warts from touching someone who has them.
Achilles Tendonitis
Your Achilles tendon pulls your heel up so you can stand on your toes to walk, run, or jump. Though strong and durable, the tendon is susceptible to overuse injuries that lead to Achilles tendonitis.
